Archery Program July 2011

Did you know: Archery can be conducted in an air-conditioned environment (reducing the wind factor decreasing the challenge) for beginners joining us for the first time!

Before the Archery Program, we need to prepare the room and the necessary equipments:

During:

Upon the students arrival... there was a video shown to excite them about the Archery program, following which, was some ice-breakers ...

As the program goes on, participants were allowed to get a feel of the weight of the bow and a simple background was given for them to better understand they different types of bow and the names given to the different parts of the bow. For example, the arrow notch and the bow string.

Participants were taught how to check which is their dominant eye:

Following which is the demonstration of the 10 Steps required before, during & after shooting.

When you shoot and realize you have used up your arrows, this is time where you retrieve them before beginning another round afresh...
Our instructor demonstrating the correct way to retrieve an arrow:

Now that the theory part is over, time for participants to put into practice the things they have heard!

Each participant were given at least 3 tries each round with different distance covered each time and scores were recorded to keep track of the highest scorer and to challenge the others to beat the record.

... after much practice, it is time to put their skills to the test!
Participants in each group were given 5 balloons with 10 arrows. The group with the least balloons wins the competition.

In order to ensure meaningful participation, we will always end our program with a time of debrief and values to impart into the participants.

***THE SURPRISE ELEMENT!***

Celebrating his birthday and taking time to appreciate him!

Now it's time to appreciate those who performed well (good behavior and attitude displayed etc) as well as those who won the competition earlier on!

To end off, here's a group picture before they leave..

As you can see, the participants finished the arrows before they managed to finish shooting the balloons ... Isn't a waste to JUST burst them?

therefore, now the instructors shall attempt to shoot down the remaining balloons!

After we had our fun, it's time to pack up and leave the place ... until next time, bye!
